Heart attacks symptoms are different for women. I recently learned this.
Everyone should know these things.
thanks to mainstream media and being unable to show breasts on TV, way too few people know about female signs of cardiac distress, and impending heart attacks. they only know about the “pain in the left arm” male symptom.
i had all these symptoms once and they sent me right to hospital
it was scary bc i didnt know these were the symptoms for female heart issues
Shoutout to all the women who WILL ignore them in favor of sticking it out because health care is so ridiculously fucking expensive in this country.
I know that people love to believe that violence against women isn’t an American problem & most of the International Women’s Day posts I’ve seen focus on “developing countries” and how they treat women so badly. But if you’re paying attention to what American women of color are saying about issues such as partner abuse, street harassment, rape culture and the lack of institutional support when we do stand up (Marissa Alexander) it couldn’t be more clear that patriarchy and misogyny has done as much damage here as abroad.
Even within our own homes we aren’t safe:
- An estimated 29.1% of Black American females are victimized by intimate partner violence in their lifetime.
- 41% of API respondents reported experiencing DV (physical and/or sexual) during their lifetimes.
- 23.4% Latinas are victimized by intimate partner violence.
- 37.5% of Native American/Alaskan Indian women are victimized by intimate partner violence in a lifetime.

Very important! All my chronic condition people take note.
I am a light-skinned person with a light-skinned/passing Latina mother and a brown-skinned Pinoy father. I do not pass as white. However, I am often seen as mixed Asian by other people, which means I am afforded the many privileges that come with that…
The analysis reveals that young people view their identities as complex, contradictory and diverse, and demonstrate a reflexive awareness of their own sense of self as a phenomenon which is personally constructed, continually revised and displayed to others.
The study highlights the importance of role models, and how individuals understand their own identities, more strongly than previous studies of young people and the media.
It suggests that the media functions as a resource young people use to conceptualise and formulate their present identities, as well as articulate possible future selves."
Young People, Identity, and the Media; Fatima Awan. PhD research project, 2007. Abstract.
What this means is what we can see in this image:
Everyone deserves to be able to envision themselves clearly, in fantasies and escapism, in the past, the present, and the future.
